China's Gonna Glow

“China is adding the equivalent of Great Britain’s entire electric output every two years,” the stalwart Chris Mayer said in his presentation yesterday. “It’s the biggest power plant building spree ever.”
China intends to increase its nuclear output at least fourfold by 2020 -- from 8,700 to 36,000 megawatts. To achieve its goal, China will have to erect three reactors a year. Just this morning, the Chinese government inked a multibillion-dollar deal with Westinghouse to construct four nuclear power plants along the Chinese coast.
Chinese leaders understand that about 80% of China's energy comes from coal -- an unsustainable resource. So… China is going nuclear… and in a big way.
